The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for parts of Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa over the possible formation of cyclone Kyarr.
According to the IMD, the deep depression over the east-central Arabian Sea is very likely to intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm on Friday.

¡°The storm is very likely to move east-?northeast-wards till the evening of October 25. Then it is very likely to re?curve and move nearly westwards towards south Oman and adjoining Yemen coast with gradual intensification during subsequent 72 hours,¡± the department said in a press release.
Following this, parts of Dakshina Kannada district have been put on alert and the State Natural Calamity Monitoring Centre has asked the public to be cautious.

They have also warned fishermen against venturing into the sea and asked those already out in the sea to return.
Karwar, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts, apart from many areas in the north- and south-interior Karnataka has been receiving heavy to moderate rainfall since Wednesday night and the IMD has warned that intensity of the rain could increase further on Friday due to the possibility of Cyclone Kyarr.
Even though the low pressure is expected to intensify into a depression and move in the Northwest direction, the cyclone is unlikely to make landfall.

The cyclone comes just a few months after the region was hit by one of the worst floods in history. The heavy monsoons had inundated most of Karnataka, with Dakshina Kannada being the worst hit.
A total of 61 people were killed across the state in the floods that also damaged more than 40,000 houses.
