Shraddha Walkar Murder: Accused Kept Looking At The Severed Head To 'Keep Her Memory Alive'

The Delhi Police is continuing their search for the missing body parts of Shraddha Walkar who was killed by her live-in partner Aaftab Amin Poonawala who then chopped her into pieces that were discarded over months in various locations.

According to reports some 13 body parts, believed to be of the woman, have been recovered by the police from different areas so far.

Dumped the head of Walkar last

Poonawala had chopped the body of Walkar into 35 pieces which he initially stored in a new refrigerator and later dumped at different places in the national capital over several days.

Since the murder was committed six months ago and the body was cut into pieces, Police are struggling to find the remains as Poonawala claims he doesn't remember where they were dumped.

Crucially the skull of the woman has not been found yet.

According to reports, Poonawala had kept the severed head in the refrigerator for a long time and would often look at it to keep memories of their relationship.

He reportedly told the cops that Walkar's head was the last body part he had dumped.

Aftab was a trained chef

Aftab, a trained chef, was adept at using the knife and had systematically dismembered the body.

He also bought a brand new refrigerator with a large storage capacity the next day and stored the remains in it.

To counter the stench, he lit incense sticks at his home.

There are also reports that Poonawala would remove the body parts from the refrigerator to his room when he used to bring other women home.

How the murder was uncovered

The crime that went unreported for months was cracked after the Manikpur police in Maharashtra launched a probe into a missing person complaint filed by Walkar's family.

Manikpur police had called Poonawala for questioning twice - last month and on November 3 - and on both occasions, he told the police that Walkar had left his place and they were not staying together.

Accused tried to mislead the police

Poonawala had tried to hide the murder of Shraddha by removing any physical evidence, however, he had left the digital evidence.

When Delhi Police initiated the investigation, Aftab had told the police that Shraddha had left the house on May 22, after a fight. He said that she had only carried her phone with herself and had left her belongings in his flat. He claimed that she was unreachable and he had not come in contact with her since then.

But police found a transaction of Rs 54,000 from Walkar¡¯s net banking account app to Poonawala¡¯s account on May 26. The location of the bank transfer turned out to be the Mehrauli police station area.

In addition to this, Poonawala had chatted with a friend of Walkar's Instagram pretending to be her on May 31.

The location of the phone was traced to the house where Poonawala lived.

Tried to kill her ten days ago

Police also claimed that Poonawala had tried to kill his live-in partner, even before they moved to the apartment in Chhatarpur.

"They had frequent fights, as Walkar suspected that he was cheating on him, because he was active on the dating app Bumble on which the duo had met three years ago," police sources told IANS.

"She knew that he was talking to other girls on the dating app and had lost interest in her," the source claimed.

"After a fight, Aftab would have killed her 10 days before he did but Walkar cried and he then hesitated," the source said.
