But now the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has offered them a lifeline, a very expensive one though. The UPSRTC will soon provide transportation facilities for Noida and Ghaziabad residents from Delhi Airport.
Even while the nationwide lockdown continues to remain in place several relaxations have been made in recent days. One of them is the resumption of limited train services and in the coming days, airlines are also likely to resume operations, which will be a huge relief for people stranded across the country to reach home.
But many people who had recently travelled to Delhi were caught off guard when they realized that they cannot reach home from the railway station as there are no cabs or other public transport. People reaching Delhi Airport on repatriation flights of Air India from various countries are also facing similar issues.
But now the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has offered them a lifeline, a very expensive one though. The UPSRTC will soon provide transportation facilities for Noida and Ghaziabad residents from Delhi Airport.
This service does not come cheap. According to The Times of India, UPSRTC will charge Rs 10,000 for a Honda Ciaz, Rs 12,000 for Innova and Rs 1,000 for bus service. The base charges will cover up to 250 km distance from the Airport and after that Rs 40 and Rs 50 will be charged for each extra kilometre in the two taxi variants respectively.
A seat in the non-AC roadways bus would cost Rs 1,000 while an air-conditioned ride is available at Rs 1,320 for 100 km. The fair will be doubled for the next 100 km. According to a letter by UPSRTC managing director Raj Shekhar more than three passengers will not be allowed in a taxi, including the driver, and 26 passengers on the bus, to maintain the social distancing norms.
To avail this service, the passengers will have to get a health certificate from the Delhi government, verifying that they don't have symptoms of Covid-19. Currently, all passengers who are being brought back from abroad are quarantined at Delhi Government facilities for 14 days.
Only after completing the mandatory quarantine period, those with no symptoms will be travel to their homes in Noida and Ghaziabad on these buses and cabs.

However, after outrage over the high fairs, UPSRTC agreed to review the charges.
"The matter of high rate has come to the fore and a 3-member committee has been formed to examine it and will give its report on Friday. Further action will be taken on that basis. We will look into and consider revising the rates if needed," Raj Shekhar said.
Taking cognizance of reports regarding Chartered Taxi of UPSRTC (available only on the request of district administration), a committee has been constituted at the HQ comprising senior officials of the corporation to examine the issue & report back within 24 hrs.

On Thursday evening, UPSRTC issued a clarification saying that services from IGI airport to Noida/Ghaziabad quarantine centres are completely free of cost, just like all other UPSRTC operations where we are ferrying migrant workers from railway stations to their respective home districts.
