They say that 24 hours is a long time to have your life turned around. From hero to zero in a matter of 24 hours, that is how life has turned around for Palle Thirupati Reddy.
On August 15, Reddy, a Constable posted at I Town police station of Mahabubnagar district was celebrating his life when he was honoured with the ¡®best constable¡¯ and received a citation from excise minister V Srinivas Goud on Independence Day.
Just a day later he was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for accepting a bribe of Rs 17,000.
Reddy was allegedly trying to extort the money from one Mudavath Ramesh by threatening to falsely implicate him in a case.
According to ACB DSP S Krishna Goud, Reddy had been harassing Ramesh, who used to transport sand on his tractor, for over a year.
He added that last month Reddy had threatened Ramesh to implicate him in a false case if he did not pay up Rs 17,000.
Ramesh then approached the ABC and on Friday they laid a trap for Reddy. He was arrested by the ABC from the police station after the amount was recovered from the back pocket of Reddy¡¯s trousers.
