The Two Sides Of Delhi 20kms Apart - One Was Burning And The Other Was Welcoming Donald Trump
On Tuesday morning there is an uneasy calm in Jafrabad a day after violent clashes broke out there. Five of Delhi Metros Pink Line remained closed for the second consecutive day on Tuesday in the wake of the violence in northeast Delhi areas. Five people including a head constable were killed and several others injured as violence broke out on Monday.
The situation in the national capital could not have been any different - on one side there is an unprecedented security deployment to welcome American President Donald Trump who is on a two-day visit to the country.
But less than 20 km away from the high-security zone of the national capital where Trump was given a red-carpet welcome, in Jafrabad there is also an unprecedented security clampdown, a day after the area witnessed clashes, arson and murders after violence broke out between pro and anti-CAA protesters.

On Tuesday morning, there is an uneasy calm in the area, a day after violent clashes broke out there.
Though no large scale violence has been reported from Jafrabad since Monday evening, several social media posts have claimed that there was stone-pelting and even gunshots were heard at night. On Tuesday morning, violence was reported in Brahampuri, Maujpur and Babarpur area.

There are also reports that a mob had set fire to a tyre market in Gokulpuri area on Monday night, following which 15 fire tenders were sent.

Many locals said that they are concerned about their safety and those indulging in violence are doing so with complete impunity. On Tuesday morning, despite a heavy police deployment, shops in Jafrabad and Seelampur are completely shut due to the fear of more violence.

Five of Delhi Metro's Pink Line remained closed for the second consecutive day on Tuesday in the wake of the violence in northeast Delhi areas. Jaffrabad, Maujpur-Babarpur, Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave and Shiv Vihar remain closed and trains are being terminated at the Welcome Metro Station.
Meanwhile, Shahdara DCP Amit Sharma, who was injured during clashes between two groups in Gokulpuri on Monday has reportedly recovered in a Delhi hospital. Five people including a head constable were killed and several others injured as violence that broke out on Monday.
On the other side of Delhi, President Trump was given a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Tuesday morning.
