For Ashfaq Hussain, a resident of Mustafabad in North-East Delhi and his wife Tasneem, the past two weeks were the happiest days of their life. The two had begun a new life together as a husband and wife on February 14, which is also Valentine's Day.
But the happiness turned into grief on Tuesday, just 11 days after they got married. Hussain,22, who used to work as an electrician in Mustafabad, was returning home after work in the evening when he was caught in the violence that had engulfed the area for days. He was stabbed twice in the neck and shot five times. Three of the bullets hit him in the chest, two others on his side.
His family alleged that the Delhi Police did not allow them to take him to GTB Hospital and they had to take the body to the Al Hind Hospital in Mustafabad.
Only in the morning, they were able to take Hussain's body to GTB Hospital.
¡°He wanted to come home early from work, but he could not make it because of the violence,¡± a relative said.
Another riot victim, Mohammad Shahid too had a similar story.
22-year-old Shahid who used to drive an auto rickshaw to make a living was killed on Monday afternoon after he was hit by a bullet that passed through his body.
Shahid's family in Mustafabad said they got to know about his death only after his photos began circulating on social media. Shahid's wife is now pregnant, but their child will grow up without a father. She doesn¡¯t earn a living.
