Bihar toppers scam accused Ruby Rai was on Saturday arrested after she failed miserably in a re-examination to assess whether she had actually topped in class XII (arts) exams conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB). Based on her 'dismal performance', the BSEB announced that her results were cancelled.

"Ruby's answer sheets collected from the examination hall in February-March contained topper-like answers (sic). But her answers in the 120-minute retest were thoroughly unsatisfactory," BSEB chairman Anand Kishor said and added that the board would send her examination and re-examination copies to handwriting experts.

Kishore said police were alerted about Ruby's arrival at the BSEB headquarters as an arrest warrant was pending execution. Sources said when a panel of experts confronted Ruby after evaluating her answer sheets, she told them: "I studied for two years and wrote the answers in the February-March examination, but now I have forgotten the answers."

A BSEB official revealed that Ruby simply wrote "Tulsidas-ji, pranaam" to a question on the 16th century poet saint. Ruby refused to take reporters' questions after her arrest, saying: "Nahi bolenge toh jaan maar dijiyega? (Will you guys kill me if I don't answer your queries?)"
