After a series of church attacks in Delhi in the recent months, it¡¯s now Haryana. An under construction church in Kaimri village, approximately 10km from Hisar, was demolished by unknown miscreants on Sunday. Not only did the group bring down the place of worship, they replaced the cross with an idol of Hanuman, also hoisted a flag with ¡®Shri Ram¡¯ on it, triggering tension in the area.
Following a complaint filed by Father Subhash Chand of Williwarsh church, 14 people have been booked under sections 147 (Punishment for rioting), 153A (promoting enmity between groups), 295 (destroying, damaging a place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class of persons), 380 (theft in a building), 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC, but no arrests have been made so far.
It is believed that the villagers were angry over alleged efforts of the priest to convert local residents. Villagers claimed the priest, Subhash, had bought the piece of land to build a house but started constructing a "Believers Church" instead.
Haryana all set to ban beef, cow slaughter Reuters
The state Government is all set to impose a complete ban on the sale of beef in any form in the state. The ban would also cover the canned beef which was legalised during Congress¡¯s term. "The state government is engaged in framing a stringent law to clamp a complete ban on cow slaughter, said agriculture and animal husbandry minister OP Dhankar.
Under the new law - 'Gau Sanrakshan Avam Gau Samwardhan (Cow Protection and Cow Conservation and Development) Bill', offenders would have to face a jail term of 10 years for slaughtering the cows.
"It would have provision of 10 years' imprisonment if found guilty of cow slaughter. Action would also be taken against the driver of the vehicle carrying beef and the vehicle would be impounded," Dhankar said.
BJP government in Haryana, headed by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has a majority in the assembly and the proposed bill is all set to be made into a law.
