Three Members Of A Family Abducted, Beheaded In Jharkhand Village Over Witchcraft Suspicion
The incident was reported from Kunda village in Jharkhands tribal-dominated Khunti district. The crime that happened more than three weeks ago came to light on Wednesday after their decapitated bodies were recovered by the police. The deceased have been identified as Birsa Munda his wife Sukru Purty and their daughter Somwari Purty.
In a shocking incident, three people from the same family were allegedly abducted and killed over suspicion of practicing witchcraft.
The incident was reported from Kunda village in Jharkhand¡¯s tribal-dominated Khunti district.
The crime that happened more than three weeks ago came to light on Wednesday after their decapitated bodies were recovered by the police. The deceased have been identified as Birsa Munda, his wife Sukru Purty and their daughter Somwari Purty.
According to the police, it all began earlier this month after the death of a newborn baby in the village.
Following the death, someone in the village alleged that the baby died due to black magic practiced by Munda and family.
Angered by this, the relatives of the baby accused the family of practising witchcraft and abducted them on October 7.
The crime came to light only five days later when the couple's elder daughter Telani, who came to meet her parents, approached the police suspecting foul play.
Days of investigation and even the use of sniffer dogs did not yield any result.
On Wednesday, based on a tip-off, police identified the location where the bodies were dumped and found the three decapitated carcasses.
Briefing the press, SDPO Ashish Kumar Mahli said, Birsa Munda his wife Sukru Purty and daughter Somvari Purty were abducted and killed for the suspected practice of witchcraft, and their bodies were later thrown in a pit located next to a waterfall in the Raba river.
Police also managed to arrest Soma Munda, Raghu Munda and Vishram Munda, who had executed the killing more than two weeks ago.
The SDPO said that the arrested have also revealed some other names who would be caught soon.
Recently, there was a similar case in Assam, where two unrelated people were lynched and set ablaze in Karbi Anglong district for alleged witchcraft.
The duo, a man and a woman were lynched, beheaded and set on fire by an angry mob over suspicion of practising witchcraft which allegedly caused the death of a teenage girl in the village.
