Road Trips, Goods To Get Costlier As Govt Hikes Toll Tax, Fuel Prices Cross Rs 100 Per Litre
The National Highways Authority of India is set to increase the toll tax on highways by 65 per cent. Commercial vehicles will now have to pay an extra Rs 65 for toll tax whereas private vehicles need to shell out an extra ? 10 for one-way travel. The revised rates will come into effect at midnight on March 31.

According to reports, the National Highways Authority of India is set to increase the toll tax on highways by 65 per cent. Revised rates have been issued for all kinds of vehicles plying on highways. Commercial vehicles will now have to pay an extra Rs 65 for toll tax whereas private vehicles need to shell out an extra Rs 10 for one-way travel.
The revised rates will come into effect at midnight on March 31.

According to NHAI, the toll tax for light motor vehicles such as cars and jeeps starting on the expressway from Sarai Kale Khan till the end of it at the Kashi toll plaza will cost Rs 155 instead of Rs 140. The new rate from Sarai Kale Khan to Rasoolpur Sikrod plaza will be Rs 100 and Rs 130 to go to Bhojpur.
From Indirapuram, the toll for light motor vehicles will be Rs 105 til Kashi, Rs 80 to Bhojpur and Rs 55 to Rasoolpur Sikrod.

Four wheeler - Rs 10
Commercial light vehicles: Rs 140 - Rs 215
Buses and trucks - Rs 295: Rs 445
Three-axel commercial: Rs 325 - Rs 485
Multi-axel vehicles: Rs 465 - Rs 700
Heavy vehicles: Rs 665 - Rs 850
The authority was supposed to start collecting tolls from commuters on the 59.77km Delhi-Meerut Expressway from December 25 last year, but the plan was put on hold.
According to NHAI, the annual toll collection potential on the expressway is estimated to be about Rs 111.39 crore, with cars/jeeps/light motor vehicles accounting for about 82 per cent of the traffic and bus/trucks accounting for 14 per cent.
Petrol crosses Rs 100-mark in Delhi

Fuel prices were increased again on Tuesday for the seventh time in the last eight days. In Delhi, petrol rates were hiked by 80 paise a litre to cross the Rs 100 mark and diesel by 70 paise a litre.
A litre of petrol in the national capital will now cost Rs 100.21 as against Rs 99.41 previously, while diesel will be sold at Rs 91.47 from Rs 90.77 per litre earlier.
Fuel rates were held steady for over four months despite the spike in crude oil prices. The rate revision had ended on March 22.
