The Union ministry of agriculture on Wednesday selected Tripura for the best performing state award in the small states category for its outstanding performance in the field of agriculture and farmers¡¯ welfare.
The North East states in our country are leading from the front in setting standards in the field of agriculture and farmers¡¯ welfare. In a moment of pride for the North Eastern state of Tripura, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare selected Tripura as the best performing state. Tripura will be awarded the best performing state award in the small states category for its outstanding performance in the field of agriculture and farmers¡¯ welfare, a report in the Times of India stated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to hand over the award on Thursday in Bengaluru. The state will also receive a cash reward of Rs 5 crore.
Not only this, Tripura has even improved its economy and also curbed the crime rates against women. With the series of pro-active economic measures taken, Tripura's per capita income will cross the national average in the current fiscal (2019-20), said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
According to official documents, the per capita income of Tripura was Rs 1,13,467 in 2018-19 against the net national per capita income estimated to be Rs 1,25,397.
The CM said that besides the urban areas, the rural areas of Tripura are also developing economically following which the per capita income has increased substantially and it is expected to cross Rs 1,50,000 at the end of the 2019-20 financial year.
Even the crime rate against women in Tripura has reduced by seven percent during the last two years of the present government in the state, said Ratanlal Nath, state Law Minister.
"As statistics show a growing rate of crime against women in other parts of the country, in north-eastern Tripura state, it has come down by seven percent. The crime rate against women in Tripura has reduced from 25 percent in 2016-2017 to 18.23 percent during the last two years," said Nath. According to Nath during the year 2016 and 2017 out of the total 7,888 criminal cases, the number of cases of crimes against women was 1,974 at a rate of 82.25 crimes per month. "However, during the following two years (2018 and 2019) out of a total, 10,521 criminal cases reported incidents of crime against women were 1,919 and at a rate 79 crimes registered per month," Nath added.
