A housing society in Mumbai has made it clear that it can't tolerate public display of affection.
Amid the ¡®no littering¡¯, ¡®no smoking¡¯ and ¡®no rash driving¡¯ signs, a housing society in Borivali has painted a ¡®No Kissing Zone¡¯ sign right on the road stretch in front of the society¡¯s gate.
According to a report by Mid-day, residents of Borivli¡¯s Satyam Shivam Sundaram society say they are not against couples, just ¡®vulgarity¡¯ if it happens right outside their house.
A couple living in the society were seen getting intimate outside their home on the road. The society members thought it's a great idea to shoot a video of them, which they did and sent it to the local corporator who told them to send it to the police.
Police didn't bother much, so the residents decided to take matters in their own hands, and painted the "no kissing" sign.
Earlier this year, the Allahabad high court ordered reinstatement of a home guard, who was dismissed from service after he was allegedly seen in a video showing affection to his LGBT partner.
In reply to the petition, the district commandant of home guards, Bulandshahr, had stated that the petitioner had indulged in untoward activity linked to his sexual orientation.
The court said the dismissal was in violation of the Navtej Singh Johar ruling of the Supreme Court. ¡°The apex court, in the said case, has held that the sexual orientation of the person is his individual choice and any act of treating it as an offence would be an interference in the right of privacy of the person concerned,¡± said justice Agarwal.
