"The number of casualties in Kumaon region alone has crossed 40," DIG Nilesh Anand Bharne told PTI.

Rising toll
One died in Champawat's Banbasa on October 17 following heavy rains. Six deaths were reported on October 18. From these, three were in Pauri, two in Champawat and one in Pithoragarh.
On October 19, Uttarakhand registered 39 more deaths. Of these, the highest number of deaths (28) were reported in Nainital, six in Almora, two each in Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar, and one in Bageshwar.
A house in Raapad village in Almora district's Bhikiyasan was hit by a landslide last night. Four people who were living in the house were killed, while a woman was rescued by the villagers, informed PIB, Uttarakhand.

On Tuesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired a review meeting in Haldwani, Nainital over the situation in the city and state alike, in the wake of heavy rains.
"Those who lost their houses will be given Rs 1,09,000, Rs 4 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased, possible help to be extended to those who lost their livestock," he had said.

Char Dham Yatra resumes
'Char Dham Yatra' which was halted due to incessant rain in the region, will resume from Wednesday, informed State Police.
After attending a review meeting with the state's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday in Nainital, Director-General of Police, Ashok Kumar told ANI, "Garhwal is almost under control, even the 'Yatra' has been started there. Leaving the last stretch of Badrinath i.e., Joshimath to Badrinath has been opened and 'Char Dham Yatra' will completely revive tomorrow."
Torrential rains in the state have led to flash floods and landslides leading to several deaths and massive loss of property.

No rains
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted no rainfall activity in Uttarakhand for the next three days. However, isolated to scattered rainfall might occur over the state on October 23 as per the IMD forecast.
