Watch: Haryana Women's Commission chief Renu Bhatia threatens to get NRI man deported, arrest his family
In the video, posted by men's rights activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, Haryana State Commission for Women chairperson Renu Bhatia is seen speaking to an NRI over a video call, in what seems to be a case filed by his wife.
A video has gone viral on social media showing Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) chairperson Renu Bhatia threatening an NRI man with deportation and the arrest of his parents if he does not return to India within ten days. The undated video appears to show a hearing where Bhatia was addressing complaints filed before the Women's Commission.
'Come to India or your parents will go to jail'
In the video, posted by men's rights activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, Bhatia is seen speaking to an NRI over a video call, in what seems to be a case filed by his wife.
The NRI man's parents were also present at the hearing, and Bhatia is seen directing the police to arrest them immediately. She then asks the man, who is reportedly living with another woman in a different country, how many days it will take for him to return to India, to which he does not give a clear answer. Bhatia then tells him that he should return to India within ten days or she will have him deported and his parents arrested.

'HSWC chife can't threaten someone'
"Haryana State Women Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia tells NRI man that she will get him deported over complaint by wife, get his parents arrested immediately if he doesn't come within 10 days. I don't know facts of the case but is threatening parents like this okay?" Bhardwaj said while sharing the video.
Many on X also agreed with Bhardwaj and noted that the HSCW chairperson had no right to threaten someone by telling them she would have his parents arrested.
Can an NRI be deported over desertion
While the details of this particular case are unclear from the video, according to the law, if an NRI man abandons his wife in India, he can face passport cancellation and deportation from the country where he resides.
In 2010, the MEA informed Parliament that the Government has adopted a multipronged approach to give respite to wives deserted abroad by their NRI husbands. This includes both financial and legal assistance through the Indian Missions in the respective countries.
