Without Firing A Single Bullet, I Saved So Many Lives, Major Leetul Gogoi Explains His Actions
Major Leetul Gogoi was honoured with the Army chiefs Commendation Card for his sustained efforts in counter-insurgency operations. He was given the award during Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawats visit to Jammu and Kashmir last week.
Major Leetul Gogoi, who tied a man to a military vehicle as a cover against pelting of stones, today explained his side of the story in an explosive interview to a private news channel.
"I saved lives without firing a bullet or beating anyone. I have done no wrong. I was true to my duty, I was not afraid. Stones were pelted from all sides but we ensured smooth conduct of by-polls," Gogoi said.
Gogoi maintained that he did the right thing and he believes this incident will not change his outlook towards life.
"If your intentions are right nothing will happen to you. Be positive, work hard and things will be fine," he added.
Gogoi has been under fire after a video, showing the man tied to the Army vehicle during polling in the Srinagar Lok Sabha by-election on 9 April, had triggered a public outcry, prompting the force to institute a probe.
He was honoured with the Army chief's 'Commendation Card' for his 'sustained efforts' in counter-insurgency operations and sources said Gogoi was given the award during Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat's visit to Jammu and Kashmir last week.
