Operation Bhediya
The male wolf was captured as part of 'Operation Bhediya,' launched by the UP government to capture a pack of wolves that have been terrorising parts of Mehsi tehsil in Bahraich district for the better part of two months.
How a pack of wolves terrorised Bahraich
In a span of 47 days, seven people, including six children and a woman, were killed by the wolves in Bahraich. Around 30 people were injured by a pack of wolves in different villages, causing panic among locals.
The impacted area falls in the Terai region with dense forests in the northern reaches of the district, which also shares an international border with Nepal.
On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department deployed an infrared drone to track the movement of two wolves.
"We have spotted two wolves in our drone nearly 100 metres away from our location. We went to the spot and noticed footsteps, and hence it was confirmed that two wolves had passed from here," Ajeet Pratap Singh, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), said.
Four wolves captured so far
The animal caught on Thursday was the fourth wolf captured by the authorities in Bahraich so far.

However, it is still unclear if this will bring an end to the attacks on humans, as some locals claim that just one animal is targeting humans and not the whole pack.
