Women Have More Choice On Dating Apps As Data Shows There Are Three Men Per Woman
A survey of 20,000 urban Indians revealed that there are three times as many men as women on online dating apps in India.
India might have become more liberal and accepting when it comes to dating and use of dating apps to find suitable partners, the comfort level especially among women might still take a while to develop.
A recent survey conducted by Woo dating app has revealed that gender divide among the male and female candidates on these platforms is massive, Quartz India reported. A survey of 20,000 urban Indians revealed that there are three times as many men as women on online dating apps in India.
However as compared to western countries, this percentage is very low. In an article published in Business Insider India in 2016 it was disclosed that almost 40% of women engaged with apps like Christian Mingle, Coffee Meets Bagel as well as Bumble. Quartz reported that while 74% of Indian men were looking for female partners only 26% which is even less than half for looking for a male counterpart.

Woo survey brought interesting facts to the forefront. For instance, whenever one thinks of using a dating app like Tinder, people only think of these platforms for casual outings and hookups. The survey found that the main reason Indians join a dating app is for a ¡°meaningful relationship¡± with 32 percent of people looking forward to this goal. The second most common reason is to meet new people after moving to a new city. While 17 percent joined these apps to expand their social circle.
Reportedly, an average user spent close to 45 minutes each day on dating apps. Quartz report further elaborates that men spent more time on such apps as compared to women since they chat with multiple women at the same time. Women on the other hand were known to converse with two to three men only at a given point of time.

However, the gender divide is creating problem not only for men but for women as well. While men are complaining of not having many options, women are complaining of having so many options that they feel ¡®bombarded¡¯ with male attention.
In Indian society, women are very skeptical of putting pictures on social media platforms fearing harassment and misuse. Following this, the survey also discovered that 70% of women were apprehensive about sharing their personal information. As more and more women in the society are willing to make an account on dating apps, Tinder which is the market leader in India introduced the ¡®My Move¡¯ feature that allows only women to be the one to begin conversations in a pairing.
To enable women to enter the dating app world, apps are even introducing a feature that only shows their first name.
