Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, whose Olympic disqualification was a major blow for India, has resigned from her Indian Railway position, a move that comes alongside fellow wrestler Bajrang Punia. According to ANI, this resignation precedes their anticipated entry into Congress on Friday.
ANI reports that wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia are set to meet Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge at his Delhi residence, followed by their official entry into the party at its headquarters on Friday.
News18 quoted Haryana Congress Spokesperson Kewal Dhingra as saying, "Today, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat will be joining Congress at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge."
In her resignation later that Vinesh shared to X, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity and cited personal and family reasons for her departure.

"At this point in my life, I have decided to separate myself from the railway service and have submitted my resignation to the competent authorities of the Indian Railways. I will always be grateful to the Indian Railway family for this opportunity given to me by the Railways in the service of the nation."
"Keeping in view of my family circumstances/ personal reasons, I am unable to perform my duties as OSD/ Sports [Officer in Special Duty]," she wrote.
Bajrang Punia also submitted his resignation letter, writing: "I had joined this esteemed service on 13th September, 2014. I am grateful to the Northern Railways for the guidance offered to me in my professional career and I also express my heartfelt gratitude to all who those have worked with me in all my capacities during the course of my employment in the Northern Railways."
He too cited personal reason for the resignation: "I have decided to tender my resignation on account of personal reasons and circumstances at my home. I have already informed you verbally regarding this."
According to ANI, Bajrang Punia is not expected to run in the Assembly elections but is likely to be named co-chairman of the Haryana Congress campaign committee. Meanwhile, Vinesh Phogat is set to run in the elections.
