Keep Calm And Reach Out To Authorities In Case Of Any Trouble, Urges Kashmiri Students' Body, Sets Up Helpline Numbers

In the wake of escalated tensions across the Line of Control and sudden calling off of the Amarnath Yatra, Jammu & Kashmir Students Association has urged Kashmiri students studying in various parts of the country to maintain their calm and reach out to authorities in case of any troubles.

It is a body of Kashmri students outside the Kashmir valley and it has established helpline numbers in the view of the prevailing situation.

¡°We can feel the vulnerability and panic among all the Kashmiri students living outside the valley. JKSA has set up a proper bridge for students in consultation with the authorities of different states, journalists, activists and allied departments to pay heed to their problems,¡± Nasir Khuehami, a spokesperson of the Students¡¯ body told India Times.

He said that ever since the Pulwama attack earlier this year, Kashmiri students have been at the receiving end of unwarranted intimidation in several parts of the country, particularly parts of North India such as Dehradun and Haryana.

The students¡¯ body has also reached out to authorities and Khuehami said that he has personally spoken to top officials in several districts.

¡°They have all expressed their support and have assured us that they will do everything to ensure the safety and security of Kashmiri students. So we have created this helpline number and I want to tell the students not to panic but maintain their composure and reach out to us or the concerned authorities in case they face any problems,¡± he added.

Kashmiri students who face any problem can reach out to the following numbers, 9149676014, 7006037530, 9682367066, 9634336937 and 7006903341, as also to the local authorities in their immediate districts.

He also urged the students to not put up any provocative writings or posts on social media that can ¡°add fuel to the fire¡± and have an adverse impact on their safety. He said that the authorities have expressed full co-operation and that Kashmiri students should also cooperate with them and work together in this hour of distress.

The government decided to end the Amarnath Yatra and has increased the presence of troops in the valley in the wake of security threats and intelligence reports suggesting the possibility of multiple suicide attacks in the Valley.

However, every time there is an escalation of tensions in Jammu and Kashmir or across the Line of Control, it has a kind of ripple effect on Kashmiri students and workers in various parts of the country.

These helpline numbers have been created to avoid any untowardly incident from happening. While the Students' body has urged Kashmiris living in the rest of India to reach out to them and the authorities in case of any trouble, it has also unequivocally advised them to refrain from posting any provocative material on the social media.
