Wedding Called Off Over Chicken Biryani!
The groom's side had demanded mutton biryani, but the bride's family sent them chicken biryani instead. A verbal fight ensued and the wedding was called off.
Here¡¯s your ¡®what the hell, did this really happen¡¯ story for the day. Now we know that Indians love their food, but this is some another level altogether. A wedding in Bengaluru was called off recently, the bone (pardon the pun) of contention being-Biryani. The groom¡¯s side had demanded mutton biryani, but the bride¡¯s family sent them chicken biryani instead. A verbal fight ensued and the wedding was called off. It really does happen only in India.
The wedding of Saifulla and Yasmin Taj was supposed to be held on Monday at a mosque in KG Halli. The families had arranged for a reception at Golden Heritage Shadi Mahal in Fraser Town on Sunday night.
According to a report in the Hindu, at the reception the girl¡¯s family prepared chicken biryani among other dishes. The groom¡¯s family was upset as they do not eat chicken and demanded that mutton biryani be served. The trivial matter soon snowballed into a massive argument, with no side backing out even after the intervention of elders.
Then the unthinkable happened. The bride decided that this small fight was an indicator of things to come and her family backed her in her decision to call off the wedding. Seeing the groom¡¯s family¡¯s behaviour prior to the wedding, she wondered how she would be treated after marriage and the family also started doubting the well being of the bride after the wedding, if such a small adjustment could not be made.
The miffed groom¡¯s family didn¡¯t try to change their mind and took back the mehar that had been given to the bride, police said. Speaking to the Asian Age The KG Halli police, which was aware of the incident, said that they had never seen or heard the cancellation of the wedding just over biryani. ¡°We are unable to take any case in this matter as there are no strong grounds to register a complaint. We do not want to rub salt on the wounds of both family members by registering complaints against them as it would further damage the possibility of a patch up. We hope the families will sit patiently and go ahead with the wedding,¡± the police added.
It seems it was the inflated egos that led to the rupture of this alliance. But as for now, the blame lies squarely on the cooked shoulders of that chicken biryani.
