'Couldn¡¯t Brush My Teeth For 2 Months¡¯: Pant Opens Up About Challenges Following Severe Car Accident
Rishabh Pant revealed that his injuries from the car accident were so severe that he couldn't even brush his teeth for two months.
Rishabh Pant, the talented wicketkeeper-batter, faced one of the most tragic incidents in recent Indian cricketing history. His career and life were thrown into uncertainty following a horrific accident that left him with multiple fractures, requiring ligament reconstruction and extensive treatment for a severe knee injury.
Despite the critical nature of these injuries, Pant recently made a remarkable comeback in IPL 2024 after 15 months of rigorous rehabilitation.
Pant shared his harrowing experience during the latest episode of "Dhawan Karenge," a fun talk show hosted by his India teammate Shikhar Dhawan on JioCinema premium. Reflecting on his recovery journey, Pant emphasised the importance of mental strength.
"Self-belief and self-confidence are very important while recovering from an injury because there are people saying all sorts of things around you, and you, as an individual, have to think about what's good for you. The accident was a life-changing experience for me," he stated.
Recounting the immediate aftermath of the accident, Pant revealed, "When I got up after it, I wasn't even sure if I would be alive, but God was very kind to save me. I couldn¡¯t even brush my teeth for two months, and for six to seven months, I suffered with unbearable pain. I couldn't go to the airport because I was nervous about facing people in a wheelchair."
Despite initial doubts about his ability to return to professional cricket, Pant proved his resilience. After it was announced that he would represent the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, questions lingered about whether he could reclaim his dynamic batting style or perform behind the stumps.
Pant silenced these doubts with an impressive comeback season. In the recently concluded IPL 2024, he emerged as the top run-getter for Delhi Capitals, scoring 446 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of over 155, including three half-centuries.

Looking ahead, Pant is set to make his international cricket comeback during the ICC T20 World Cup, which begins on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA. His journey from a life-threatening accident to leading his team in IPL 2024 showcases his incredible resilience and passion for the sport.
