T20 World Cup: Ex-India Selector Predicts Retirement Dates For Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli
Kris Srikkanth emphasized that while the T20 World Cup 2024 is important, it is not Virat Kohli's last chance to win the title, and highlighted Rohit Sharma's strong desire to win the T20 World Cup after missing out on the ODI World Cup.
Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has emphasized the significance of the T20 World Cup 2024 for Virat Kohli, stating that it won't be the last chance for the premier batter to secure the major title. Srikkanth believes Kohli, given his fitness, can continue playing and participate in the 2026 World Cup.
Virat Kohli has been a cornerstone of the Indian cricket team for the last decade, achieving numerous accolades throughout his career. However, one major title that has eluded him is the ICC T20 World Cup. Kohli has come close to winning the tournament several times but has yet to clinch the trophy.
The upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 presents a significant opportunity for Kohli to add this prestigious title to his achievements. He is expected to play a crucial role in India's quest for their second T20 World Cup title under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Despite widespread belief that this could be the last opportunity for both Kohli and Sharma to win a major title together, Srikkanth suggests otherwise.
"Is this a last chance for them to win together as a team (with Rohit and Kohli), probably yes. Keep in mind, the 2026 T20 World Cup is in India. So everybody would like to play in India. As far as I am concerned, the kind of fitness Virat Kohli has, he can easily play until 2026. So 2026 could be Virat's last. For Virat Kohli, this is not the last chance. But he will be very keen because he has not won a T20 World Cup yet,¡± Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

"Whereas Rohit Sharma has won it in 2007. He wanted the ODI World Cup very badly, but he missed it. He will now be looking at the T20 World Cup, thinking he should win it for India as a captain. As a captain, winning the World Cup is a big thing. That's why MS Dhoni is being spoken about so much. He has won all the major trophies. Rohit Sharma will be keen on winning for the team and for the country more than himself, that's what I am trying to say,¡± Srikkanth added.
India is currently clashing with Ireland in New York in a kickoff to their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.
