IPL 2024 Qualifier 2, SRH vs RR: In a thrilling start to Qualifier 2 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals, both teams came out with aggressive intent. Trent Boult emerged as RR's key player, making a significant impact by taking three crucial wickets within his first three overs. Among his victims was the attacking Rahul Tripathi, who played a blistering cameo.
Tripathi, batting at number 3 for SRH, scored an impressive 37 runs off just 15 balls. He launched an aggressive assault on both Ravichandran Ashwin and Boult, hitting five boundaries and two massive sixes. One of the highlights of his innings was a "Suryakumar Yadav-esque supla shot" that he executed for a maximum off Boult. However, the New Zealand pacer had the last laugh, dismissing Tripathi with a clever slower bouncer. Tripathi, visibly upset, showed his disappointment on his face, having failed to pick the variation. Even SRH owner Kavya Maran displayed disbelief as SRH lost Tripathi on 37.

Avesh Khan continued the momentum for RR by picking up his second wicket in quick succession. He bowled a superb delivery that swung into Abdul Samad, the new batter. The ball went through the bat-pad gap and crashed onto the off stump, sending Samad packing. On the previous delivery Avesh had already dismissed Nitish Reddy, who was able to score mere 5 runs after facing 10 deliveries.
Earlier in the match, RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bowl first. Boult set the tone by removing Abhishek Sharma in the first over. Following this, he took the wickets of Tripathi and Aiden Markram. Markram was dismissed by a corker of a delivery from Boult, further putting SRH on the back foot.
SRH's batting lineup faced another middle-over collapse, reminiscent of their previous match against Bengaluru. They lost Travis Head and a few more wickets quickly, with RR bowlers maintaining tight pressure.
At the end first innings SRH's score stood at 175-9 in their allotted 20 overs. As SRH suffered from the regular fall of wickets, Heinrich Klaasen made a mark with his 4th IPL half-century, scoring 50 off 34, before departing on a ripper bowled by Sandeep Sharma.
