Paris Olympics 2024: 'Next Olympics is four years away, may take a break and come back,' says PV Sindhu after shock exit
PV Sindhu, a former silver and bronze medalist in the Rio and Tokyo Olympic Games respectively, was aiming for her third Olympic medal in Paris, but crashed out in the pre-quarterfinal match. She lost the Round of 16 clash against sixth-seeded Chinese shuttler He Bing Jiao.
It was a day of mixed emotions for India at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday. While Swapnil Kusale's bronze in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions event cheered up the Indian camp, there was some heartbreak to follow. Shuttler PV Sindhu, one of the country's biggest medal hopefuls, crashed out in the pre-quarterfinal match of the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024.
No third Olympic medal for Sindhu
Sindhu, a former silver and bronze medalist in the Rio and Tokyo Olympic Games respectively, was aiming for her third Olympic medal in Paris. However, the flag-bearer for India at the opening ceremony lost the Round of 16 clash against sixth-seeded Chinese shuttler He Bing Jiao, 21-19, 21-14, in straight sets.

'First set could have changed the game'
Reflecting on her loss, Sindhu said things could have been different if she had won the first set.
"The first game could have been a bit different, especially, I feel at 19-all, it was anybody's game. I challenged it. It would have been good if it was in my favor, but it was on the line, and it was 20-19 in her favor. Maybe if I had won the first set, it would have been different. I would have had a lot more confidence," Sindhu said.
'I don't regret'
The 29-year-old, however, said that she gave her everything and doesn't regret the loss.
"Everybody worked hard, so we've done whatever we could. The rest is destiny. I don't regret it," she said.
"I kept fighting still because you never know¡ªanything can happen. Both of us were fighting for each point because until the end, you can't expect," Sindhu added.

Another Olympics for Sindhu?
Despite the setback in Paris, Sindhu has kept the possibility of yet another Olympics open.
"It's still four years away. So for me, right now, I just want to go back and rest for a bit, maybe take a break, and then come back. Let's see what happens because four years is a very, very long time. So let's see," Sindhu said when asked about her potential participation in the 2028 Olympics in the United States.
