T20 World Cup, IND vs PAK: India's T20 World Cup preparations have encountered a significant hurdle, as captain Rohit Sharma suffered a thumb injury during a practice session at Cantiague Park in New York. This unfortunate event transpired just days before India's crucial match against Pakistan on Sunday. Rohit, who had been dealing with a sore arm from an earlier injury sustained against Ireland on Wednesday, was struck on the thumb by a ball delivered by throwdown specialist Nuwan during the nets session.

Abhishek Tripathi of Dainik Jagran reports that this incident prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to file an "unofficial" complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the practice pitch. The pitch at Cantiague Park, approximately five miles from the main venue, Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, has been problematic due to its uneven bounce.
Former India captain Virat Kohli also encountered difficulties while batting on the same practice pitch, though he did not sustain any injuries. Rohit, after receiving attention from the physiotherapist, attempted to continue batting from the other end of the practice net but ultimately had to leave the session.
The injury woes for the Indian team did not stop with Rohit. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was also struck in the nets. Despite being in visible pain and reportedly saying, "Bahut zor se lagi hai," Pant continued to bat, demonstrating his resilience and determination. Pant's role at No. 3 is seen as vital, especially if India loses an early wicket against Pakistan.

The ICC has acknowledged the issues with the pitch at Nassau County Stadium and is actively working with the ground crew to address the situation. "T20 Inc and the ICC recognise that the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted," the ICC stated. "The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday's game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches," the top cricketing body added.

India is set to play two more matches at the Nassau County venue after fixture with Ireland, first against Pakistan on June 9 and then against USA on June 12.
