Sarfaraz Khan Still Denied A Place In Test Squad Despite Brilliant Domestic Run And That's Just Unfortunate
Days after being ignored for the Tests vs Australia, Sarfaraz Khan slammed yet another 100 in the Ranji Trophy. It is his 13th century in First-Class cricket in a mere 37 games and the 25-year-old continued a rich vein of form.
Days after being ignored for the Tests vs Australia, Sarfaraz Khan slammed yet another 100 in the Ranji Trophy. It is his 13th century in First-Class cricket in a mere 37 games and the 25-year-old continued a rich vein of form.
Since 2020, Sarfaraz has been on a golden run in domestic cricket so to speak. But sadly, while it did bring him on the selectors' radar, it could not get him a chance on the Test side.
It was the familiar story once again as he was snubbed for someone else. The man preferred over Sarfaraz was Suryakumar Yadav who was picked based on his T20I performances.
The irony here is, Sarfaraz did well in Ranji, the benchmark for Test selection. Yet, he lost out to someone for something completely unrelated. With all due respect to Suryakumar, Sarfaraz will feel he was dealt a bad hand.
The batter's latest performance was so good that coach Amol Muzumdar doffed his hat to him from the stands.
Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad came out in support of the young man.
¡°Not having him in the Test Team despite 3 blockbuster domestic seasons is not only unfair on Sarfaraz Khan, but it¡¯s an abuse to domestic cricket, almost as if this platform doesn¡¯t matter," wrote Prasad on Twitter.
¡°And he is FIT to score those runs. As far as body weight goes, there are many with more kgs," the tweet also said.
Sarfaraz entered the domestic scene as a teenager full of promise but in the last couple of years, his game has touched a whole new level.
It is unfortunate he is not on the Test side. One hopes his big break comes soon. As they say, better late than never and Sarfaraz will want to keep doing well to see that opportunity sooner rather than later.
