India para-shuttler Suhas Yathiraj has won his second Paralympic silver medal in the ongoing games in Paris. Yathiraj, who bagged his first Paralympic silver in Tokyo three years ago, retained it in Paris on Monday. Yathiraj lost to France's Lucas Mazur in straight sets 9-21, 13-21 in the final of the men's singles SL4 category.
Athletes in the SL4 class compete standing with less severe impairment than in the SL3 class. SL4 athletes demonstrate lower limb impairment and minor balance problems when walking or running.
The 41-year-old Yathiraj, who hails from Hassan in Karnataka, is currently the World No. 1 ranked para-badminton player in men's singles.

Who is Suhas Yathiraj
An engineering graduate from the National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, Yathiraj is also an IAS officer of the 2007 batch of the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
As an IAS officer, Yathiraj has served as District Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar and Prayagraj. Currently, Yathiraj is posted as the Secretary and Director-General of Youth Welfare and Prantiya Rakshak Dal, a department under the Uttar Pradesh government.
First IAS officer to win Arjuna Award
Yathiraj, who was honoured with an Arjuna Award, is also the first and only IAS officer to win the second-highest sporting award in India.
Suhas Yathiraj is an IAS Officer, who is the incumbent District Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.

President Murmu congratulates Yathiraj
President Droupadi Murmu congratulated Yathiraj for winning his second silver medal.
"One more badminton star, Suhas Yathiraj, adds to the continuing string of medals today. Heartiest congratulations to Suhas on winning a silver medal in the men's singles badminton event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Suhas has demonstrated the highest levels of skills, fitness, and resilience by winning consecutive silver medals at two Paralympics. I wish him sustained success at the highest levels," Murmu wrote on X.
