NY stadium has drop-in pitches
Only five months ago, the stadium site was nothing more than a regular parkland. Situated just 25 miles east of New York City, the stadium has undergone rapid transformation, with drop-in pitches transported from Florida to complete the preparations.
Constructed with infrastructure reminiscent of the Las Vegas Formula 1 circuit and featuring drop-in pitches sourced from Florida, the stadium stands as a testament to the growing popularity of cricket in the United States. Among the fixtures slated for the venue, the India-Pakistan clash on June 9 promises to be a highlight, drawing global attention to the burgeoning cricketing scene in New York.
Co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States, the T20 World Cup will kick off on June 1, with New York, Florida, and Dallas serving as the primary venues. The International Cricket Council (ICC) expressed its delight in showcasing the India-Pakistan rivalry on American soil, viewing it as a pivotal moment in expanding the sport's reach.
ICC assures of quality playing surface at NY stadium
Chris Tetley, the ICC's head of events, remarked on the unprecedented media coverage surrounding the fixture, underscoring the immense interest generated by the event. "We are really excited to bring the T20 World Cup cricket to the US and the opportunity that it presents to the sport," Tetley affirmed.

Addressing concerns about the stadium's facilities, Tetley assured that the Nassau County ground boasted world-class infrastructure, including comparable dimensions to renowned cricketing venues like Wankhede. The inclusion of drop-in pitches, overseen by esteemed curator Damian Hough, further ensured a quality playing surface conducive to dynamic cricketing contests.
Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh echoed sentiments regarding pitch conditions, emphasizing the need for teams to adapt based on practice games. Singh's remarks underscored the meticulous preparation underway ahead of the tournament, which will see 20 nations vying for cricketing glory from June 4 to 30.
¡°Pitches there [Nassau Cricket Stadium] are known to none to be honest. Even the pitch curators might not know how many times will this pitch last. How much heat would be there how much water has been put in? How much bounce would it offer?¡± Harbhajan said at a press conference organized by Star Sports on Wednesday.
¡°Once those practice games are played there, then we will get to know how the pitch is acting. And then we can think about combinations. Prior knowing that, we can¡¯t say about team combinations,¡± he added.
With India set to commence their campaign against Ireland on June 5, followed by a highly anticipated clash against Pakistan, the stage is set for an enthralling spectacle at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, marking a significant milestone in the sport's global evolution.
