The left-arm medium-pacer has been on the sidelines on account of drop in form and persistent injuries, having last played for India in February 2014 against New Zealand in Wellington. On Thursday morning, Rajeev Shukla posted on his Twitter account that Zaheer will call time on his career and hoped he continues to play in IPL.

The 37-year-old wasn't named in Mumbai's first two Ranji matches for the ongoing season having missed the previous season on account of a shoulder injury. Zaheer, will however, give all all cricket after the ninth edition of the IPL in 2016.

He played for Delhi Daredevils in IPL 8, featuring in seven games in which he picked seven wickets. Zaheer has played 92 Tests for India, picking 311 wickets at an average of 32.94. He has also played in 200 ODIs in which he has 282 scalps at 29.43 apart from 17 wickets in 17 T20Is.

He is India's fourth highest wicket-taker across all formats with 610 scalps. Only Anil Kumble (956 wickets), Harbhajan Singh (706) and Kapil Dev (687) have been more successful than Zaheer.
Zaheer's captain during the 2011 World Cup, where he was the leading wicket-taker, MS Dhoni led the twitter tributes along with Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
