In a hilarious moment of banter after India's triumphant T20 World Cup final, Rohit Sharma in jest said that he would have dropped Suryakumar Yadav in case India's middle-order star had not caught the crucial catch that sent David Miller packing in the ultimate clash of the tournament.

The match, which made fans witness India lifting the trophy after 13 years, was largely influenced by Suryakumar¡¯s outstanding fielding at long-off in the final over.

At a time when South Africa required 16 runs from the last six balls, Suryakumar came through with what was arguably the catch of the tournament on the first delivery of the over.

Miller, who was the last revered Proteas batter in the lineup, struck a full toss on Hardik Pandya's low full-toss delivery towards long-off. Initially, it looked like the ball was going for a six, but Suryakumar pulled off a blinder by positioning himself correctly, which enabled him to lob the ball before stepping over the boundary. Thereafter, he jumped back in to complete the catch, negating a potential game-changing six by Miller.

Rohit Sharma, along with Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill, visited Maharashtra¡¯s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at his residence. They were joined by Yashasvi Jaiswal (who was also meeting them for the first time), and Rohit cracked a joke on the podium at this official gathering.

Reflecting on the catch, Rohit said, "After Surya caught the ball, he told me that the ball sat in his hand. Thank goodness it did. Otherwise, I would have sat him out."

The significance of this particular catch could not be overstated. Rohit stood in nervous anticipation at long-on as the ball flew high in the air. He could not hide his joy when Suryakumar took the catch perfectly as expected. This game-changing moment went to India¡¯s side, with Hardik Pandya maintaining his composure in the last five balls, leading to a seven-run win against South Africa.

Maharashtra government's prize money

Lauding this landmark triumph, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had earlier offered Team India a cash award of Rs 11 crore. This announcement was made not long after the BCCI had stated their intention to award Rs 125 crores to the victorious team.
