Assuming the captaincy mantle from Ricky Ponting in 2013, Sharma orchestrated MI's remarkable journey to clinch five IPL titles within a span of 10 years (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020), with two additional playoff appearances.
Rohit Sharma was acquired by the Mumbai-based franchise during the IPL 2011 mega auction, marking the beginning of an illustrious journey with the Mumbai Indians. Over the span of 14 years donning the Blue and Gold, Rohit has showcased his brilliance in 199 IPL matches.

Accumulating a total of 5,084 runs at an impressive average of 29.39 and a striking rate of 129.86, he has left an indelible mark on the league. In his 195 innings for MI, Rohit has recorded a remarkable century and 34 fifties, with his highest score being an unbeaten 109*.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have opted to bowl first in the upcoming match.
For Sharma, this match holds sentimental significance as it marks his return to the ground where he secured his maiden IPL title with the Deccan Chargers back in 2009.
"Looks like a good track, we were solid in the last game. Didn¡¯t plan properly, that cost us the game. 13 games to go, we need to keep doing the right things. We are positive and looking forward to the challenge. Just trying to spend time with all the players. Getting to know them better. One change, Luke misses out," said Hardik Pandya at the toss.
