116-YO Kane Tanaka From Japan Honoured By Guinness Records As World¡¯s Oldest Living Person
Guinness World Records has just confirmed Kane Tanaka from Japan as the oldest person living at 116-years of age.
As life expectancy rate continues to deteriorate due to modern lifestyle and a stark neglect for healthcare, Japan continues to hold the number 1 title when it comes to oldest living human beings.
The average life expectancy among both the sexes in the country stands around 83 years. While doctors and health experts continue to put emphasis on exercising and a healthy diet, the present generation seems to lagging behind than their ancestors.
Guinness World Records has just confirmed Kane Tanaka from Japan as the oldest person living at 116-years of age. As on March 9, 2019 Tanaka is exactly 116 years and 66 days old.

She was presented with her certificates for the record at a ceremony in her home. Tanaka was born prematurely on 2 January 1903 in Fukuoka. She is the seventh of eight children and loves playing board game Othello.
She married Hideo Tanaka on 6 January 1922, four days after her 19th birthday. Her husband became involved in the military service following which she took to household chores of making rice cakes and looking after her mother-in-law.
Tanaka¡¯s journey hasn¡¯t been free of diseases though. She has had her fair share of operations though, she continues to live a peaceful life. She went under a cataract operation and another for colorectal cancer.

However, her old age isn¡¯t a deterrent to being active. Guinness World Records statement said that she wakes up at 6 in the morning and in the afternoon studies one subject such as Maths.
During the presentation ceremony, Tanaka was given a box of chocolates which she immediately started eating.
Japanese tend to exhibit longevity and dominate the oldest-person list. Although changing dietary habits means obesity has been rising, it¡¯s still relatively rare in a nation whose culinary tradition focuses on fish, rice, vegetables and other food low in fat. Age is also traditionally respected in Japan, so people stay active into their 80s and beyond.

However, the oldest person ever record is held by a French woman named Jeanne Louise Calment for the last 22 years. Born on 21 February 1875, Jeanne died at a nursing home in Arles, southern France on 4 August 1997 at the age of 122 years 164 days.
The oldest living person before Kane was another Japanese woman named Chiyo Miyako who passed away on July 22 last year at the age of 117 years and 81 days.
