After Khalistani violence at Hindu Sabha Temple, Brampton?Triveni Mandir cancels consulate event
The Brampton Triveni Mandir is located just 20 km away from the Hindu Sabha Temple, which was the scene of violent protests by pro-Khalistani groups during a similar Indian consular camp. According to the temple authorities, the event could witness an "extremely high level of violent protests," due to which it has been cancelled.
Amid the ongoing sectarian tensions between Sikhs and Hindus in the Canadian city of Brampton, the Triveni Mandir there has cancelled an upcoming Indian consulate event due to an alleged threat of violence by Khalistani groups. The Brampton Triveni Mandir and Community Centre has cancelled a Life Certificate Event, a consular camp aimed at providing an avenue for people of Indian origin to renew their essential certificates, which was scheduled for 17 November.
'Threat of high levels of violence'
According to the temple authorities, the event could witness an "extremely high level of violent protests," due to which it has been cancelled.
"Please be advised that the Life Certificate Event scheduled at Brampton Triveni Mandir by the Indian Consulate on 17 November 2024 has been cancelled. This is due to official intelligence from Peel Regional Police, stating that there is an Extremely High and Imminent Threat Level of violent protests," the temple administration said.

The Brampton Triveni Mandir is located just 20 km away from the Hindu Sabha Temple, which was the scene of violent protests by pro-Khalistani groups during a similar Indian consular camp.
"We call on Peel Police to address the threats being circulated against Brampton Triveni Mandir and provide security guarantees to the Canadian Hindu Community and the general public," the temple administration added.
Hindu temples under attack in Canada
This is the latest in a series of events that have been ongoing for more than a year in Canada, following the killing of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, for which the Canadian authorities have blamed agents of the Indian government.
While India has outrightly denied the allegations, Canadian Hindus and their places of worship in the country have become the targets of Khalistani separatists.
SFJ leader arrested
Last week, Canadian police arrested a 35-year-old Brampton resident on charges of assault with a weapon during a violent demonstration at a Hindu Sabha temple. According to Peel Police, the arrested man, Inderjeet Gosal, is the Sikhs for Justice coordinator for Canada.
