Canada's upper house of parliament on Tuesday approved a revised bill to legalize recreational marijuana. The Senate voted 52-29 in favour of the revised bill from the elected House of Commons, paving the way for a fully legal cannabis market within eight to 12 weeks.

Legalizing the recreational use of Marijuana was actually a part of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's 2015 election campaign. "It's been too easy for our kids to get marijuana - and for criminals to reap the profits. Today, we change that. Our plan to legalize & regulate marijuana just passed the Senate," Trudeau said in a tweet. This has been done, considering that the other nations might take the same path as Canada- the first major economy to fully legalize cannabis.

Canadian marijuana companies like Canopy Growth, Aphria, Horizons Marijuana Life Sciences ETF and Aurora Cannabis have been at the center of investor frenzy surrounding attempts to legalize marijuana for recreational use nationwide.

Legalization has already been delayed from the government's initially planned July launch. (Better late than never!)

Only 9 per cent of those who use marijuana end up being clinically dependent on it, says a report. The 'comparable rates' for tobacco, alcohol and cocaine stood at 32 per cent, 15 per cent and 16 per cent respectively.

Accept it or not, people are consuming marijuana. Making it legal would actually help the locals. These cannabis plants grow in Himachal Pradesh (Kasol, Malana- must have heard about it) and marijuana is the only source of income for many locals. The farmers are forced to sell it at very cheap price cause it is 'illegal'. Legalizing marijuana will end this 'war on drugs' targeting our own countrymen.
