Coronavirus (Covid-19)is wreaking havoc across the globe and its effect on India in the past few weeks has risen exponentially. India has so far reported 81 positive cases including 16 Italians, of the novel coronavirus.

State governments and authorities have started taking preventive measures with several offices being shut down and employees being asked to work from home.

Parliament session could be halted midway due to coronavirus scare

Union Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal stated that 'the government should think about curtailing the Parliament session' to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Speaking to ANI, Badal said: "By observing the situation, the biggest gathering of people happens in the Parliament, as different people from different parts of the country come here, who also sit in close proximity to each other. To stop the coronavirus epidemic, I think the government should think about curtailing the Parliament session."

44 Indians from Iran reach Mumbai, to be isolated

A flight carrying 44 Indians evacuated from the coronavirus-affected Iran arrived from Tehran on Friday afternoon, officials said. Besides the passengers, there are 17 crew members and the aircraft has been parked at an isolated area at Mumbai airport to avoid any contact with other passengers or flights. Officials indicated that all the passengers would be shifted by an Indian Navy team to a quarantine facility.

'Angrezi Medium' to re-release later in Kerala, Delhi, J&K

The makers of Irrfan Khans "Angrezi Medium" will be re-releasing the film in Kerala, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir -- regions where cinema halls will remain shut till March 31 due to the coronavirus outbreak. On Thursday, it was announced that cinema halls and schools will be shut in several regions as an effort to prevent the highly-contagious virus from spreading. While the Akshay Kumar-starrer "Sooryavanshi" was immediately postponed, the makers of "Angrezi Medium" went ahead with the release on March 13 despite not being able to play the film in Delhi theatres.

Over 700 people under surveillance at firm of Delhi man who tested positive for COVID-19

More than 700 people working in a leather company in Greater Noida have been put under surveillance after a Delhi-based director of the firm tested positive for novel coronavirus, officials said on Friday. The 46-year-old man had recently travelled to Italy, Switzerland before returning to India, Gautam Buddh Nagar Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Anurag Bhargava said.

Coronavirus: All schools, colleges in UP to be shut till March 22

The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday declared closure of all schools and colleges where examination process is not going on till March 22 in view of coronavirus scare and asserted that all precautions are being taken to check the spread of the disease. "All schools and colleges associated with the basic, secondary, higher education and vocational colleges, where examination process is not on, have been closed till March 22," Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath told newspersons.

Coronavirus: Museum at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to remain closed till March 31

In the wake of coronavirus outbreak, the Heritage Museum at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus will remain closed for public for the month of March 2020, said Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railways in a statement on Friday. This comes after confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country have risen to 75. The country has also reported its first COVID-19 death in Karnataka, the health ministry had stated earlier.
