Elon Musk's $5.2 million blunder: Fine sent to wrong account amid Brazilian court clash
Elon Musk's ongoing clash with Brazil's Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes has taken an ironic turn, as Musk¡¯s company mistakenly sent a $5.2 million fine to the wrong bank account. Despite paying the full amount for failing to comply with court orders, Judge Moraes has directed that the funds be redirected to the correct account.
The ongoing clash between Elon Musk and Brazil's Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes has captured headlines for some time now, with Musk branding the judge an "evil dictator" after he banned X in Brazil back in August due to "disinformation." As a result, Musk's company has faced hefty penalties, totalling a staggering $5.2 million. However, in a twist of irony, the payment ended up in the wrong bank account!
X was mandated to pay a hefty $5.2 million in fines for not adhering to several court orders.
Although the platform successfully settled the full amount, Judge Moraes revealed that the payment was sent to an incorrect account rather than the one specified in the court order.
Moraes has since instructed that the funds be redirected without delay.
Why had Brazil SC judge Alexandre de Moraes banned X?
On August 31, Judge Alexandre de Moraes took decisive action against X by blocking the platform after it refused to eliminate numerous accounts accused of spreading false information.
The hearing revealed that X had not appointed a new legal representative in Brazil, a requirement under local law.
Although X briefly managed to restore services in mid-September through a technical workaround, it was forced to go offline again after Moraes warned of additional fines.
Elon Musk's clash with Judge Moraes ignited when the judge ordered the freezing of bank accounts associated with SpaceX's Starlink service.

This dispute has roots in Musk's defiance of Brazilian regulations mandating that internet companies appoint a local legal representative.
In response to the judge's actions, Musk publicly condemned him as an "evil dictator," suggesting that Moraes was infringing on free speech.
