Tesla CEO and the world's richest man, Elon Musk, is undoubtedly the most powerful individual in Trump 2.0. But even with his influence, Musk still has no access to some of SpaceX's own operations due to the lack of the required security clearances.
Elon Musk can't even enter some SpaceX buildings
According to The Washington Post, the co-chair of DOGE currently has a ¡°top-secret¡± clearance, which gives him access to some, but not all, national security secrets.

Why SpaceX lawyers advised Musk against more access
According to WSJ, SpaceX lawyers have advised Musk against seeking a higher security clearance for him as it would lead to a thorough scrutiny of his personal life.
This includes Musk's alleged use of drugs and his contact with foreign nationals, particularly Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom he has been in regular contact since 2022.

SpaceX executives fear that a thorough scrutiny would even result in his 'top secret' security clearance being revoked.
Musk's history of drug use
According to WSJ, it took Musk years to gain the 'top secret' security clearance after he discussed the use of marijuana on a 2018 podcast with Joe Rogan.
The outlet had earlier reported that Musk had a long history of using psychoactive drugs, including LSD and psychedelic mushrooms. His lawyer, however, later disputed the report, arguing that he had "never failed" a drug test at SpaceX.

How Musk reacted to 'top secret' access
Only around 400 SpaceX employees have permission to access ¡°sensitive compartmented information¡±, and Musk in the past has played down this access to 'top secret', claiming that ¡°most of the stuff that I¡¯m aware of ¡ the reason to keep it top secret is it¡¯s so boring".
