Ernst & Young Feels Grades Don't Matter. Says Will Take Jobseekers With Less Than Stellar Grades

Well when one of the biggest financial consultants say that marks don't matter, who are we to argue.

Ever since Ernst And Young (EY) revealed that they will now take students with less than the A level marks that were requirement for even appearing for an EY inteview, back in August, the world has changed a bit at least.

This meant that just getting great marks in exams are not enough but you need to have the gist for success in you.

EY is one of the big four audit firms in the world and has a great presence across the planet including India.

The fact that it no longer requires canditates (in UK) to have a a 2:1 degree, or the equivalent of three B grades at A-level, is a big thing indeed.

In pure Indian terms, this is the anthesis of Indian parents' theory that good marks=good life.

But don't go overboard with joy, they didn't say marks don;t matter at all. They just said marks will not be an obstacle in applying at EY.

EY¡¯s Managing Partner for Talent, Maggie Stilwell, said, ¡°Academic qualifications will still be taken into account and indeed remain an important consideration when assessing candidates as a whole, but will no longer act as a barrier to getting a foot in the door."

¡°Our own internal research of over 400 graduates found that screening students based on academic performance alone was too blunt an approach to recruitment. It found no evidence to conclude that previous success in higher education correlated with future success in subsequent professional qualifications undertaken."

¡°Instead, the research shows that there are positive correlations between certain strengths and success in future professional qualifications."
