Career began after Los Angeles Comic Con 2021
Maya Browne, hailing from Los Angeles, harbored the desire to become a Disney princess since her high school days.
Whenever the opportunity presented itself, she would don the attire of her beloved Disney characters, such as Ariel, the Mad Hatter, and Moana.
However, it was at the Los Angeles Comic Con 2021 that Maya thought of it as a career.
She discovered cosplaying and resolved to pursue a career in cosplaying and performing as a princess.
What is cosplay, and how did Maya begin a career in it?
Cosplay - short for 'costume playing' is a hobby in which participants, known as cosplayers, dress up in costumes and accessories to represent a specific character from a book, movie, video game, anime, or other forms of media.
Cosplayers often go to great lengths to accurately replicate the appearance and mannerisms of the characters they are portraying.
After grasping the concept of cosplaying, Maya became a frequent attendee at cosplay conventions.
She began incorporating body paint into her cosplays, showcasing her looks on her social media platforms. Subsequently, she made the decision to pursue a career as a Disney princess performer.
In February 2022, her efforts bore fruit as she received an offer to host children's parties dressed as characters from the popular animated film "Encanto," specifically Mirabel and Isabela.
Maya now juggles hosting two parties in a day, portraying a Disney princess and earning $100 per hour (Rs 8,000).
A special feeling, says Maya
Maya shares that her job allows her to be a big kid, attending parties dressed up, interacting with children, playing games, participating in story time, enjoying birthday cakes, and taking pictures.
When discussing her experience as a princess cosplayer, she emphasises the enjoyment and the sense of being special, particularly for kids who may not have the chance to visit Disneyland.
She expresses, "When I see their faces and they hug me and don¡¯t want to let go ¨C it¡¯s so special."
