Man Digs Up Mother's Grave, Lives With Her Mummified Body On His Couch For 13 Years
A relative of the 76-year-old man, known only as Marian L, notified police after finding the corpse when he entered the elderly man¡¯s apartment on February 22.
An elderly man has been arrested in Poland¡¯s south for digging up his mother's corpse, mummifying and leaving it on his couch for 13 years. A relative of the 76-year-old man, known only as Marian L, notified police after finding the corpse when he entered the elderly man¡¯s apartment on February 22.
Had her body on his couch for 13 years
The relative visited the man's house in Radlin and saw him wandering outside "looking mad". He then searched the home and found the mummified body propped up on the sofa on top of a pile of newspapers from 2009, as per a report in UK-based Express.
For over a decade, Marian L. would allegedly talk to his mother's mummified corpse and even attempt to feed her as they watched TV together.
Locals said they know very little about the pensioner, describing him as a loner who avoided contact with people. They even called him the 'vampire' as many didn't know his name.
Used chemicals to embalm the body
A release posted on the police website in the local language said that paramedics took the owner of the house to the hospital. The police suspected that the body on the sofa was the man's mother, who died in 2010 aged 95. So, they searched her grave and found it empty, said 7news.com.au.
The cops said that Marian dug up his mother's body soon after her burial and took it to his apartment, where chemicals were used to embalm it.
District Prosecutor's Office prosecutor Joanna Smorczewska said the man was charged with interfering with a corpse and "will be examined by expert psychiatrists who will issue an opinion on his state of health."
Head of the district prosecutor's office Marcin Felszty¨½ski added: 'Everything indicates that the man must have used some chemicals to mummify the corpse.
'The smell of mothballs was noticeable.'
The body was apparently in 'perfect condition' regardless. His mother will be reburied.
