Older People Have Higher Risk Of Death Due To COVID-19, According To China CDC

Coronavirus is now a pandemic and is spreading like wildfire across the world. Originating in Wuhan, China, the disease has now claimed the lives of over 5,000 people and more than 150,000 people have been affected. It has had an impact on the markets, travel, sports and pretty much how we live.

But, say one is infected by coronavirus, what are the odds of pulling through? The answer actually is not clear cut, because it depends on one's age. A study conducted by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention after looking at the records of 72,314 patients in the country, shows that the older you are, the higher the odds of dying due to the disease.

Now, the overall death rate is just 2.3 percent. This is a known fact, but it is only an average. It seems that the older you are, the more difficult it is, to recover.

If you are above the age of 80 then you have a 14.8 per cent chance of dying. Those between the ages of 70 to 79 have an 8 per cent chance of dying and people between 60-69 face a 3.60 per cent possibility of kicking the bucket.

Those between 50-59 are slated at 1.3 per cent while from below 50 the odds are not even 0.5 per cent as far as dying is concerned. After over 70,000 cases were examined, and according to it, younger patients have less chance of succumbing to the disease.

No matter what your age is, you must take necessary precautions so as not to catch this disease; if you begin to show symptoms or come in contact with someone who has already been infected, you should alert the relevant authorities.
