Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec wants to trademark his viral Olympic pose
Yusuf Dikec went viral on the internet for his 'careless look,' where he appeared to be wearing an ordinary T-shirt and regular eyeglasses while winning the silver medal at the Olympics. Dikec's viral pose inspired a flood of memes, and many even started mimicking his nonchalant stance.
Legendary American golfer Walter Hagen once said, ¡°No one remembers who came in second." This now-widely used quote highlights the importance of being the first, as that gets all the attention, be it in sports or something else.
This is largely true, but not if your name is Yusuf Dikec, because he came second, and everyone in the world knows him now, while not many can recall who finished first.
How Yusuf Dikec became an online sensation
That is because the Turkish pistol shooter who bagged the silver medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the 2024 Paris Olympics also stole the show with his posture.

Yusuf Dikec to trademark his pose
Now Dikec has decided to trademark his pose, and his coach Erdinc Bilgili said it was to protect its commercial use.
"After being informed of numerous trademark registration initiatives carried out without Yusuf Dikec's knowledge, we submitted an application about a week ago," Bilgili told AFP.
Usain Bolt's 'Lightning Bolt' pose
If accepted, Dikec will join an elite club of sportspersons who have a signature pose that has become their trademark. This includes legendary Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, who in 2022 filed a US trademark application for his signature 'Lightning Bolt' pose.
Michael Jordan's Jumpman
Another iconic pose that has been trademarked is Jumpman, which depicts legendary basketball star Michael Jordan.
While Michael Jordan has trademarked his own name, the rights to Jumpman are owned by Nike.
