States where Trump, Harris won
Earlier, voting concluded in most states for what is widely described as the most closely contested US presidential election in recent history. It was expected that at least half of all votes to be cast had already come in by Tuesday, with more than 84 million Americans voting early.
Battle in swing states
Polls closed in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina, some of the closely fought battlegrounds expected to decide the election, but the results there were too early to call, as balloting continued in other parts of the country.
Trump makes vote fraud claims
As Election Day voting neared its end, Trump made some unsubstantiated claims about voting and law enforcement in the biggest cities in Michigan and Pennsylvania. He said on his social media platform that there was ¡°talk about massive cheating in Philadelphia¡± and said law enforcement was on the way. He did not provide details, and there was no immediate indication of what he was referring to.
On Tuesday, Trump had suggested he wouldn't challenge the results of the election¡ªas long as it¡¯s fair. ¡°If it¡¯s a fair election, I¡¯d be the first one to acknowledge¡± the results, Trump said.
