The morning programme, which was aired to celebrate the wedding of Pakistani film and TV actress Veena Malik had generated criticism across Pakistan, and people registered blasphemy cases against them across Pakistani cities, including Karachi and Islamabad.
While the channel apologized through English and Urdu newspapers and TV, it wasn¡¯t enough. The owner of the channel, Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman, as well as TV host Shaista Wahidi have also been charged. A fine of 1.3 million Pakistani rupees has been imposed on the four, and the court judgment mentioned that they had committed profanity.
However, they can appeal to the regional high court in Gilgit-Baltistan. It is rumored that all four are currently out of the country. Rahman lives in Dubai, and the other three are said to have left Pakistan when they received threats from militant organisations.
