Viral Video: Visiting a new country often means bringing back the best of its culture and flavours to share with loved ones. This was the case for Koki Shishido, a Japanese content creator from Tokyo who now lives in Mumbai. Koki recently uploaded a video where he introduced his grandparents to some popular Indian snacks, giving them their first-ever taste of these foods.
The snacks included aloo bhujia sev, a beloved Indian snack, Khatta Meetha, a sweet and sour mix, and a pulse candy flavoured with raw mango. The video captured the candid reactions of Koki's grandparents as they tried each item.
First on the menu was the raw mango-flavoured candy. Koki's grandpa made an unhappy face, clearly not enjoying the taste, while his grandma was more critical. She commented, "The first taste I've ever had," indicating that the flavour was unique to her.
Next, they tried aloo bhujia sev. The grandpa was quick to voice his dislike, saying, "I don't like," and asked his wife for her opinion. She remarked, "Oh, spicy! I can feel some flavour," but did not clearly state whether she liked it or not.

The final snack was the Khatta Meetha mix. Even before tasting it, they commented on its pleasant smell. The grandpa noted the aroma, and Koki's grandma found it to be good, saying, "It's nice."
Despite some positive comments, the overall experience led them to conclude that adapting to Indian cuisine would be challenging. Koki's grandma summed up their feelings by saying, "It's not easy for us to go to India."
The video, showcasing these genuine reactions, highlights the diverse and often surprising nature of culinary experiences when cultures meet. For Koki's grandparents, the introduction to Indian snacks was an adventure in flavour, though not always a pleasant one. Their mixed reactions reflect the challenges and joys of trying new foods from different parts of the world.
