Freedom To Live With My Parents And Not Move Out. EVER

It＊s not that much of a bummer to be way past your prime and still live with your parents. For those like me, it＊s actually a very fulfilling experience. The perception, however, varies from one to another. Many sociologists hold the belief that the current generation is unprepared to take on the responsibilities of the world. They feel that our current lodging situation depends on factors such as rising housing prices and an emotional range that remains confined to a teaspoon.

And while this may hold true for some, for others, it＊s a choice 每 a freedom that they are not shy of exercising; a liberty that allows them to feel satisfied with living under their parents＊ roof as ＆young adults＊. And I plan to celebrate this freedom this Independence Day, because living with your parents is not a shameful thing. Not. At. All.

Now, as I prepare myself to dive into a conversation that justifies this living arrangement, I must take a moment to *BURP*. Excuse me, if you may. I just ate the most sumptuous meal on earth and that belch was needed. If you＊re wondering about my meal, here＊s what I had: saut谷ed veg cutlets for appetizers, mutton biryani with vinegar-tossed onions for dinner, and a delicious scoop of gajar ka halwa for dessert.

A free of cost meal, served with many ounces of love from mom. It＊s a perk that makes living with her and dad the best decision in the world. Those who think that living alone can trump THIS, they really need to get their priorities right.

When I tell people I am a 28-year-old ＆unmarried＊ woman still living in my childhood abode, they either judge me or worse, pity me. I admit I do sometimes feel the sharp stab of shame when I think that my parents had moved out of their respective homes as soon as they hit their 20s; and by 25, both had successfully earned their IIT degrees, got married, and trotted half the globe. All I＊d achieved by that age was 7 years of quality education (no, I didn＊t fail; just made my way to three different colleges). Still, pitying me is not the answer. It may inflate their pride for a teensy little second, but I know beneath that squirms a kindling desire that makes them want to move back with their parents right now.

Furthermore, when I see people willing to move out of their parents＊ home, to get a job 每 any job 每 to make ends meet, and to completely severe the umbilical cord that siphons their parents＊ money, I＊m reminded of what Monica tells Rachel in F.R.I.E.N.D.S - ＆Welcome to the real world. It sucks. You're going to love it.＊

But guess what? People ain＊t loving it too much. Agreed that Chandler and Ross were the only ones with steady incomes, but the other four 每 Joey and Phoebe included - learned their ways the hard way. For me of course, the freedom of living with your parents in the same city where you work is another perk that I＊m not ready to give up. And while I may agree with people when they say that renting an apartment gives one immense sense of pride, I say "take a hard look at your savings account first and then talk about pride."

And if we go by what the recent studies suggest, it＊s quite surprising how the number of young adults living with their parents has skyrocketed in recent times. In fact, we have been rechristened 'boomerangs＊ 每 the ones who first venture out into the world to earn their living, fall in love, and settle down, but after a while, bounce back on their parents＊ couch with legs on the coffee table. Those who don't fall into this category, I pity thee!

Don't think my rants have no basis. I too moved cities a few moons ago. I was 23 at that time. Mom was indignant to let me go and dad took it as a personal insult. So, when I came running back without a second thought 每 for reasons known as ＆landlords＊ and ＆mortgage＊ 每 my doting parents welcomed me back with open arms.

As an aside, let me also point out one slight itch that often surfaces while staying at home: Relatives. Not all; only those who I am not too fond of 每 and the list is numbered in double figures. I don＊t understand how my staying at home is a problem for my aunts (＆Time to move out and get married young lady!＊), uncles (＆Beta, it＊s your parents＊ turn to live with you!＊), cousins (＆Dude, get your own apartment already.*wink*-one-night-stands-*wink*), and their pets (＆Bow-wow!＊ that uncannily resound ＆move-out!＊).

I won＊t indulge these ＆suggestions＊ with counter-arguments, because it＊s not what I want to discuss. What I want to discuss is my ＆preposterous!＊ ambition of living with my parents at this age.

I believe that I can stretch it out for a few more years. Actually I wouldn＊t mind if the time came at the age of 40. I will never feel embarrassed for staying at the only home I have ever had, and in my childhood room that still has DiCaprio＊s posters smiling back at me. There are other perks as well 每 the whiff of fresh laundry, midnight strolls in the campus, fully stocked fridge, free internet (with no limits on downloads), and four meals played out perfectly well to my orchestra of unreasonable requests. So anyone who wishes to debate on the perks of living alone, bring it on. 'Cause you will lose, and you will pay.

I mean come on! Spending time with my folks can never be quantified. It can never be ＆enough＊.

Of course there is dependency, there is no denying that. Emotionally, I＊m like a 6-month-old - eating, pooping, and crying round the clock. And also like a 16 -year-old getting royally reprimanded for being the bane of my own existence. You know the usual stuff like getting caught with a smoke in my hand, or coming home with all my marbles lost.

But financially and all things related, there＊s a lot of independence as well. I do my taxes, manage the home staff＊s salaries, and even get my car serviced (which believe you me, is not an easy task bloody hell!).

I don＊t have a lot of bucket-list-strike-outs to boast of, but if I could be allowed to add ＊28 and still won＊t leave home＊ to the list, it would immediately grab the No.1 spot.

Because I don＊t have to justify living with my parents. It＊s not an argument that I have to win with anyone. Things do get blown out of proportion and they continue to as I conclude this (＆Get off your bottoms and do the dishes. Now!＊). I admit I was never an easy kid to raise and I＊ve still not learned my lessons. But my parents love having me perched on their heads 24x7 and I love having them around me just as much. It＊s an independence that comes from deep within. It＊s a freedom that is my birth right.

Why would I ever want to give that up?
