Uttarakhand, hosting the 38th National Games during its silver jubilee year, is incorporating a strong environmental focus with its "Green Games" theme. A key initiative will see every medal-winning athlete planting a tree in their name within a designated "Sports Forest" near the event venues.
This initiative aims to establish environmental conservation and create a lasting legacy for the athletes. Guests attending the Games are also encouraged to participate in the tree planting drive, with over 10,000 saplings expected to be planted throughout the event.
Sustainable practices throughout the games
The "Green Games" theme will be evident throughout the event. Medals will be crafted from e-waste, while athlete certificates will be made from eco-friendly materials. Electric vehicles will be used for athlete transportation, and recycled PET bottles will be utilized for drinking water. Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, stated "Last year, the Prime Minister launched the 'One Tree for Mother' campaign, inspiring the entire nation toward environmental conservation. Uttarakhand has made significant progress under this initiative. Now, we have themed the National Games as 'Green Games.' Several measures are being taken to ensure that, along with sports, a powerful message of environmental conservation reaches the nation and the world."

The inaugural ceremony is planned to celebrate grandly with a captivating light and sound show. The decorations and selfie points will also be made from e-waste, reflecting the event's commitment to sustainability. An e-waste-made tiger has already been installed at the venue.
