Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly narrowly escaped a major accident on Thursday (February 20) when his car was involved in a collision on the Durgapur Expressway in West Bengal while heading to Burdwan University for an event. The incident occurred near Dantanpur when a lorry suddenly cut in front of Ganguly's convoy, forcing his driver to brake abruptly.
This triggered a chain reaction, causing multiple vehicles behind to crash, with one eventually colliding with Ganguly's car. According to Kamanasish Sen, SP Hooghly (Rural Police), two vehicles sustained minor damage, but no injuries were reported.

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi
The former India captain was involved in a serious accident in Hove, East Sussex on July 1, 1961. His car collided head-on with another vehicle, resulting in severe damage to his right eye. Despite the permanent injury at just 20 years old, he made a remarkable comeback and became India's youngest Test captain at 21.
Mohammad Azharuddin
Another former India captain was involved in a car accident on December 30, 2020, on the Kota Mega Highway in Soorwal, Rajasthan. He was traveling to Ranthambore with his family when the crash occurred. Fortunately, he sustained only minor injuries and escaped unharmed.
Mohammed Shami
On March 25, 2018, the Indian pacer was involved in a road accident while traveling from Dehradun to New Delhi. Around 5 AM, a truck crashed into his Toyota car, leaving him with minor injuries and requiring 10 stitches on his head.
Sunil Gavaskar
On August 10, 2014, the legendary cricketer survived a car accident while traveling from Manchester to London after the third Test between India and England. He was in a Jaguar with commentators Marc Nicholas and Chandresh Patel when a car from the opposite direction collided with them. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Rishabh Pant
The star wicketkeeper-batter survived a near-fatal car crash on December 30, 2022 while he was traveling to his hometown, Roorkee. He reportedly dozed off while driving, causing his speeding car to crash into a divider and burst into flames. Two locals bravely managed to rescue him and called for an ambulance, ultimately saving his life.
Rahul Dravid
The "Wall" of Indian cricket was involved in a minor car accident in Bengaluru on February 4, 2025. While waiting in traffic, his Hyundai Creta was rear-ended by an auto-rickshaw. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the incident caused only minor damage.
