It has become a common phenomenon that whenever India plays a match, especially against England, former cricketer Michael Vaughan always has something to say. After India's 15-run victory in the 4th T20I against England, controversy erupted over Harshit Rana being allowed as a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube in Pune.
Dube, playing as a batter, was struck on the helmet in the final over and suffered a concussion. As a result, officials approved Rana as his replacement, and he made an immediate impact, taking three wickets to help India clinch the series.
Michael Vaughan's social media rant
Dube, had scored a half-century but was unable to take the field after the hit. With Harshit Rana on the field, his catch had got England's captain. Buttler was visible frustrated and was seen making remarks about Rana in the dugout. Later, in the post-match press conference, he firmly rejected the notion that Rana was a "like-for-like replacement".
On X (formerly Twitter), Michael Vaughan also expressed his opinion and wrote, "How can an out-and-out bowler replace a batter who bowls part-time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #INDvsENG"

About the controversy
According to ICC rules, teams are permitted to field a like-for-like replacement in the event of a concussion across all formats. However, this rule has often been used to the advantage of the team, with many selecting substitutes who do not strictly match the injured player's role. For example, when chasing a target, a team may bring in a specialist batter even if a bowler is injured. Conversely, while defending a total, they might opt for a bowler in place of a batter.
