IND vs NZ: Another toss, another loss! Rohit Sharma's coin luck fails again in Champions Trophy 2025 Final
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma lost yet another toss, this time in the final against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025! He he has now lost 12 consecutive tosses, tying the record set by West Indies legend Brian Lara.

Rohit Sharma walked out for the toss in the final game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as India prepared to take on New Zealand in the summit clash in Dubai. He called out "heads," as he has consistently done since the start of the Champions Trophy, but once again, luck did not favour him.
Seems like the coin is not in favour of Rohit as he has now lost 12 consecutive tosses, tying the record set by West Indies legend Brian Lara, who faced a similar streak from October 1998 to May 1999. This also marks India's 15th consecutive toss defeat.
Most consecutive tosses lost by a ODI captain:
12 Rohit Sharma (Nov 2023 - Mar 2025)*
12 Brian Lara (Oct 1998 - May 1999)
11 Peter Borren (Mar 2011 - Aug 2013)

R Ashwin wanted India to lose toss
In fact, before this game, former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin was happy with Rohit's toss-losing streak. On his YouTube channel Ash Ki Baat, he said, "In my opinion, India shouldn't aim to win the toss. I'd say let them lose it, allowing New Zealand to choose what they want to do. It could put India in a tricky spot. All in all, India would be comfortable either way since they've successfully defended and chased before".
Fans react
Many took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to react to the Indian captain losing so many tosses, but they also seemed unbothered as India has managed to win all their games so far.
One fan said, "I think it's a good toss to lose, and if India restricts NZ to below 275, they can chase it as I'm sure the ball will skid on."
